Amazing Grace
In China, a missionary recently reported on a huge underground revival meeting, in which hundreds of people “sang in the Spirit,” not their own words but “as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Someone audiotaped the meeting and when it was played back, what they heard was a completely different song and accompaniment, sung in Mandarin. The missionary concluded that the words of the song were far too sophisticated for these rural peasants to have developed, and concluded the voices must have been angels.
What did the words say? “More and more earthquakes, famines, incurable diseases, people fighting, the situation is becoming more sinister. The earth is restless, the skies have been broken…,The revelation of love has been manifested. Rise up, rise up and rescue souls.”
We shouldn’t be frightened by reports such as these. Instead, we should be grateful that we have enough time to get our lives (and our souls) in good order.
