Bicycle Helper

Dick had been talking to his four-year-old son Bobby about the power of prayer. “God will always answer when you pray to Him,” he pointed out. One day Dick took Bobby to an enclosed cement area (like a tennis court) to teach him to ride his new two-wheeled bike. At one point the chain came off the bike. “We’ll have to go home now,” Dick said. “I can’t fix that chain without some special tools.”

Bobby didn’t want to go home. He was enjoying this one- on-one time with his dad. “I know, Daddy,” he said. “Why don’t we pray that God fixes it?”

“Well..” Dick was at a loss. How to explain?

Just then a small truck pulled up beside them. “Having trouble?” the cheerful driver asked. Glimpsing the dragging chain, he got out and opened up the back of his truck. There was a veritable tool shop inside, everything anyone would need to fix a little bike chain. Quickly the man chose a tool, deftly mended the chain, then smiled, waved, got back inside his truck. Dick’s attention was momentarily distracted and when he looked back, the truck was gone.

But it hadn’t just driven off. It had vanished. Only slowly did it dawn on Dick that the fenced area where they had been biking had chain links covering the entire four sides. Even if a truck driver would drive right onto an enclosed park area, —–and Dick was beginning to wonder why anyone would—how could it have gotten in, with nothing larger than a small door as its only entry?

Bobby didn’t have the answers, but he wasn’t worried. His daddy had told him how powerful prayer was–and that was all he needed to know.
